Spring was fun while it lasted
Woke up on another beautiful Sevillan Spring morning. Ate some toast and headed to the center to hang out a bit before class. I still had a sore throat. What is with this? I think that it may be allergies. I mean, I definitely didn't feel sick or as if I was getting sick, I just had a rampant sore throat. Yeah, perhaps allergies. Who knows. Once I got to the center I received a text message from the University bookstore saying that the teatro book I ordered had come in. Yay! That's happy, I like when things go my way. Before class Stacey and I headed over there and I handed over 7 euro for Barranca abajo, an Argentinian play by Florencio Sanchez. I scanned it and it looks pretty short and do-able. I just needed to buy a pocket Spanish-English dictionary now since I finally had reading and hw to do, haha. Then I had Lope 2-3 which consisted of a guest speaker from the U. of Valencia who talked about Italy's infamous Comedia dell'arte (a theatre genre of ages ago) that supplied much of Lope de Vega's inspiration. It was boring, not gonna lie. I'm really starting to get restless with my classes. I'm bored, needless to say. It's weird because the material is fascinating, I just can't hold my attention. I really think that it's because I'm not used to having all lecture classes. I'm a spoiled little RC girl, what can I say? During the break I ate my lunch...still white bread for sandwiches, but Maruja told me that she's just finishing this loaf out and then she'll start buying pan integral. Wooohoo! The sun was not out anymore, it started to become overcast and colder. Weather.com had told us that starting Friday it was supposed to rain for the next week and a half. And be cold. And windy. Well, Spring was fun while it lasted. Then we had Teatro hispanoamericano 4-5 which went really well, he talked more about the play, and then 2 students performed a scene (well, did a reading, technically). They're theatre students at the U., I believe. They were very good, very fun to watch. I wish I spoke Spanish really well (ya know, with an accent and could do impromptu readings of it w/o getting stuck on words and pronunciation) cuz I'd so want to do a reading! Oh me and my theatrical shenanigans. After class the girls and I discussed drinking plans for the next day (St. Patty's) since we intended to celebrate it as if we were in the states (a.k.a. drink all day, haha). We made some loose plans. Who knew what the day would hold. Stacey and I then walked to the center where we ran into Katie. We had been tirelessly searching for hostels in Amsterdam. They're pretty pricey in comparison to other countries (because we're going around Easter time and therefore they can knock up the prices due to lots of traveling) and also many are booked for some of the nights we are to be in Amsterdam. Ugh, stressful. She said that she still hadn't had much success. Stacey then had class so we made plans to meet up at the Starbucks in los Remedios to do some reading for class before dinner. I hung out at the center and watched it grow gloomier and gloomier outside. I then had Iconografia 6-8 which went OK, I'm having a hard time following the class. It doesn't really seem to follow any sort of coherent track, I don't know. I'm just lost. I hope my tutoring sessions start soon cuz I need one, stat. We got out of class at five to 7, even though we started class at 6:15. Gotta love that prof., starts late and ends at least an hour early. So great. I then walked back to los Remedios, stopped at Libreria Beta to buy a Spanish-English dictionary (uuggghhh 12 euro). I then met up with Stacey at Starbucks who was with Katie. Needless to say, for a good hour and a half we got zero homework done. We just drank tea and chatted to no end. We finally headed out around 9:15 to be home in time for dinner at 9:30. Dinner was silly, but I didn't mind since I was pretty hungry and not very picky. We had hotdogs (no buns), pureed potatoes, and a really good, simple green salad on the side with fresh, amazingly delicious cherry tomatoes in it. For dessert we had oranges. I wasn't upset about the lacklustre dinner since the previous night's dinner was pretty intricate, and the next day for lunch we were getting a special meal for Maria del Mar's birthday! After dinner I quickly showered and did a few things. I popped a Melatonin because I wanted to get to sleep early since a) I had to be up at 7:30 the next morning for 2 tutoring sessions for my lit. classes b) I still had that damned sore throat and c) I had a long day of drinking in store for me the next day. So I passed out by 11:30...later than I wanted since I stayed up a bit looking for hostels in Amsterdam. Still no luck. That's it for Thursday. Very typical, but never boring!
