Time is flying...

Woke up groggily to my alarm at 8am. Nothing better than five hours of sleep after staying up late to type. I felt like it was first semester again, ya know, struggling to stay up late to do hw and then waking up early. Ugh, first semester. Stacey still wasn't feeling too well, but she forced herself out of bed and to tutoria with me. Tutoria for Teatro and Lope went as well as usual, Jorge's a great tutor. He kept calling me Lizzy, though, until he realized that he was wrong at the end of the second hour. Oh, Jorge. Don't worry, he will be mine. Oh yes, he will be mine. Anyone catch the Wayne's World reference? If you did then we are now best friends. Anyways, I forgot to mention that on Thursday after Teatro all of us exchange students had a meeting with Camacho to make a date to take our final early. This one weird girl from UChicago who's always super nervous and asking questions has to go home May 29, so we're all taking it May 24. Ugh. That's in 3 weeks! Oh man. Well, at least that's the only class that I'm caught up in. I guess that I'm happy that I'll get it out of the way...? Anyways, in tutoria we told Jorge and he seemed a bit flustered because that gave him only a few more tutoring sessions to go over the 3 plays, and he hadn't even finished talking about "Barranca Abajo". Ah well, speedy tutoria time, I guess. After tutoria I went online and researched hotels in Sevilla to stay in with my family in June which was kind of annoying. Then I took a walk to the bull ring to buy tickets. Maruja didn't have stuff to make us bocadillos, so I went and bought myself a lox and tomato baguette from the cafeteria next to the Cathedral. It was huge and only 3 euro...for all of that lox? Not too shabby! I then got a bit lost on my way to the bullring...who knew I could still get lost here? But on the way I found the official store for the soccer team for this side of the river, Real Betis, and got tempted to buy something. But I held back. I then found the ring and bought tickets for the bullfight on June 15 for my family. I then walked back to the center to continue the intense work on my blog before Lope. Stacey still wasn't feeling too well. I mean, she was fine, she just felt really off. Who knows. While blogging I ate my big ass baguette whicih was literally bread, lox, and tomato. It was delicious, healthy, and so filling. And the tomatoes were so sweet (they're really in season right now). I need to get this sandwich more often because it kept me full for the entire day. Then I went to Lope which was fine, a little less boring, but not much. She talked a little bit about the final and potential questions. Eesh. I'm not excited. Then I went back to the center to do more blogging, then Teatro 4-5 which was kind of boring. Then I made an impromptu Starbucks trip because although I'm not a big coffee drinker, they've been advertising a new banana mocha frappuccino that had been tempting me. So I treated myself to a mocha banana light frappuccino. I spotted a new focaccia sandwich which was sundried tomato and mozzarella which I found coincidental because about an hour earlier Jessica was telling me how much she had been craving a sund-dried tomato mozzarella sandwich but couldn't find them anywhere. Then, as I walked out I ran into Jessica and Courtney about to get muffins and coffee! I told Jessica the great news and she got very excited and bought that instead of coffee and even got them to grill it. Courtney tasted my frappuccino and decided to get that instead of a muffin. Yeah, it was pretty damn good and I was enjoying every second of it. Then the three of us sat down and chatted for awhile before my class at 6. Jessica's sandwich looked and smelled so good, and she was having a moment with it. I made a vow to come back when hungry and get that fo sho. Then I went to Iconografia which was a bit less confusing. However, Jesus kind of embarrassed me in class without really embarrassing me. Let me explain. In class I sit front and center right in his line of vision so I can get everything he says and pay attention. He was talking more about Virgin iconography and then suddenly asked me something about the appearance of the sun on Virgin statues and how it's done. I really had no clue and was honestly a bit confused by the question. I had to ask him to repeat it and he kept asking if I was understanding him. I told him kind of, not really. He kept having to clarify and everyone was staring at me. But I really didn't know nor understand. Then he gave up and asked if anybody else knew. Someone did, and I never would have guessed the answer. I mean, not only is there a language barrier, but I also know nothing about Christian iconography. Not one thing. Maybe I should tell him I'm Jewish. Now, this may sound like an embarrassing moment, but I really wasn't embarrassed. In fact, I was honored. You see, in many of my classes the professor will ask questions to random students in the class, but they only ask the Spanish. You know, they assume that the foreign students aren't really following. Jesus, however, was not marginalizing me at all. In fact, by randomly calling on me he was incorporating me and making me feel like every other student. It showed trust in my language skills. I appreciated it. Although I didn't have the answer and there was intense confusion, it was okay. Oftentimes in my classes in the States I don't have the answer. So I was happy that Jesus "embarrassed" me. Although he's hard to follow and throws us off, he's probably my favorite professor. I don't really know why. I think that I just really respect him. I don't know. Anyways, he didn't start class that day until 6:30 and let us out at 7:05. Maybe that's why I love him. Haha. I then walked home, on the way stopping at Vips, OpenCor, and Plus to stock up on cheap snacks and batteries for my Malaga trip that weekend. I got home and went straight for the computer. Stacey told me that Maria del Mar was getting ready for a date. A date?? I had to get to the bottom of this. I found her ironing a black sweater. She looked gorgeous. She told me that she was going on a blind date with a 35-year-old lawyer to some awards dinner. So exciting! She was nervous, but had nothing to worry about cuz she's a catch. She looked stunning yet professional. She finished getting ready and awaited his call in the room with Stacey and me. We chatted and she helped me translate a business letter from English to Spanish that my dad sent me. It was tripping me up because business lingo is complicated. Ah well. Maria del Mar left right before Maruja came home. I then worked on my blog some more before dinner. Just Maruja and I ate together because Stacey thought that she would be at the library studying, but it closed early, and she had already eaten anyways. Dinner was DELICIOUS: some sort of thin stew with lots of fish, potatoes, and onion and a simple green salad with yummy, ripe tomatoes. Soooooo good! For dessert we each had a kiwi. Maruja and I made really great conversation. I forgot to say! On Thursday when she got home from wherever she was that evening she came into Stacey's and my room and talked about how soon we were leaving and we told her about how sad we were and such. She told us that we should stay here in Sevilla and stay living there! Awwww! That was such an honor because Maruja has hosted students for about 25 years, so to hear that suggestion felt amazing. I love her and am going to be so sad when I leave. Thursday night, following that interaction, Stacey and I had a long teary-eyed conversation about how time is winding down and we can't believe it. We talked about how sad we were about leaving and we couldn't believe that it was happening so soon. We reminisced about when we first got here and how things had changed and stayed the same and whatnot. It's just surreal, man. So surreal. Anyways, fast forward back to Friday evening. After dinner Maruja and I cleaned up, I said goodbye and that I'd see her Sunday, then came back to the room to get completely caught up with my blogs. I got through Wednesday, packed, washed up, sat down and wrote about yesterday and then today. I'm finally caught up, yay!!! By the way, happy Cinco de Mayo (although it's a Mexican thing, it's all good)! Tomorrow morning I get up bright and early to go to Malaga. It's my last group program trip and it's weird. But I'm so excited and I plan on going all out on this one. Yay!!
