Now this is a vacation...Lagos day 2

Woke up around 11:30 the next day. It felt good to be on a vacation and not have to worry about waking up. Our only plans for the day were to go to the beach. That's it. We were all a bit hungover, not bad, though, and wanted what we deemed "the fat kids' breakfast". On our "lovely" tour that Vivik gave us the previous day he pointed out a breakfast joint where you can get eggs, toast, and pancakes for a mere 3 euros. We were there, dude. We got ready for the beach and headed over there. It was pretty packed...popular place. We stood waiting for a little while, ordered in the meantime. We chatted with people there, including Julia, Emily, Jenny, and Jessie who are in our program and go to Cornell. Soon we got seats and we ordered the fat kids' breakfast, well not me...I got a veggie burger. I mean, I don't really like breakfast food, and there was a veggie burger on the menu. A veggie burger! I haven't seen one of those in ages. I was all over that. We also all got bloody marys. They were pretty good, pretty strong, and quite spicy. My veggie burger was weird. It was basically a croqueta in patty form, but with peas, carrots, and corn on the inside instead of meat. How strange. It had honey mustard dressing on it. While eating we watched TV in there which was playing "The Simpsons" in English. In English! I have not seen that show in English since lord knows when. Also, while we were eating these two guys behind us were taking shots of Absinthe and Jager. At 12pm. What? Oh Lagos. I found out that one of them was only 18. I found out later that he used to work at the Rising Cock and got fired for being to wild and rambunctious. His name was Brandon. It was the other guys' birthday. So, another digression. There were a lot of young guys who either worked or claimed to work at the Rising Cock. Many like Vivik--they come to Lagos for a vacation and never leave. So they just end up living at the Rising Cock and (kind of) working there. What a town. After our cheap breakfast we headed back to the hostel for some last minute things. Melissa and Courtney walked to the bus station to obtain their return tickets for Tuesday morning. So Katie and I snuck some cups of their box of wine. We were pretty nice and drunk at that point. Then the 3 of us wanted to go to the smaller beach closer to the hostel that was supposed to have cliffs and such. Before heading over there we stopped at the grocery store to buy cereal to munch on at the beach. At the cash register I dropped the cup of wine that I was carrying and it splashed everywhere. How embarrassing. They were really unconcerned about it; I guess that being next to the Rising Cock hostel they're used to drunken mishaps like that. We then found this one guy, can't remember his name, who volunteered to guide us to the smaller beach since he was on his way there, too. It was about a 15 minute walk until we arrived at the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. I can't even put it into words--you'll just have to see the massive amount of pictures which, by the way, should be posted soonish. Oh man, breathtaking. Numerous cliffs, flowers, the bluest water...I can't even put it into words. I'm sorry. It's too hard. Way too hard. After admiring the beach from on top of a cliff forever, we finally walked down, put our towels/mats down next to a huge rock, sunscreened up, and laid out. It was amazing. Everything was perfect. After awhile Courtney and Melissa stumbled over drunkenly. They had gotten a tad lost. Hehe. After being in the sun for awhile and getting really hot Jessica, Katie, and I decided to brave the cold Atlantic and go swimming. It took awhile to finally jump in...it was so cold! But it felt amazing. It was exhilerating. I can't remember the last time I swum in an ocean. Really. It was just awesome. The water was so clear and beautiful and felt so good. There was a huge rock/mini cliff in the middle that we swam to and Katie climbed it and, after much coaxing, jumped. It was only about 15 feet up, but still, ya know how it is. While swimming we ran into everyone's favorite lame-o, Vivik. He was drunk and showing off doing flips off of the rock. Then he swam up to me and goes, "Hey let me see your eyes," so I looked at him and he goes, "Oh! Man. They're piercing." I rolled my eyes at him. Ugh. Then this random British guy swims up. He had been at the breakfast place earlier taking shots because it was his birthday. Katie asked if it was his birthday and he said, "Yes. And this is my underwear!" And he holds up his boxer briefs and proceeds to throw them at us. Lagos is a fucking shitshow. I mean, this guy was still wearing swim trunks, but he was holding his underwear. When he threw us his underwear I then threw them back. Then he threw them back and figured, eh, guess he doesn't want them. Then he climbed up the rock ready to jump off. His underwear then started to sink, and although he was drunk I thought that he'd regret losing his underwear, so I saved them right before they got below my toes. And then I, well, hung onto his underwear. When he finally jumped off he then swam over and said, "Have you been holding my underwear?" haha. I said yes and handed them back. Random. After hanging out in the water a bit more we swam back to shore to lay out some more. I didn't have a beach towel, just a mat, but it was so hot out that it didn't matter. While laying out on my stomach I fell asleep for a good hour. I woke up confused unaware of the fact that I had been sleeping. I then sat up and ate some cereal for a bit. While sitting there we kept seeing this guy walking around blowing a conch shell for no reason and another old dude sitting in a motor boat wearing a bright blue speedo. We called him Speedo Man. He was a fun sight. Soon Courtney asked if anybody wanted to go see the little cave that was on the other side of the beach. Melissa and I obliged and we were off. My first (kind of) cave! It was so cool, the lighting bounces off the walls in a really interesting way making it creepy and yet peaceful. The waves in there also hit you really strong and almost knock you over. The cave goes on for what seems like forever, we only went in as far as the water went. There was a huge, stereotypical, narrow cave space that looked like it went deep into the rock. It was so cool! Fascinating. After hanging out there for a little while we walked back to the towels. On the way we ran into Sara and Jessica who are in our program and go to UPenn. We talked to them for a bit. They had just gotten there and were on the Discover Sevilla program which is a big group excursion and tour of certain places around Sevilla. So yeah. When we got back to our towels we found Jessica talking to the 2 Mtv guys. One was Jamie, who is pretty cute and very standard British-looking. The other was George, who was the oldest looking 24-year-old I'd ever seen (he was completely bald). They were really nice and really cool. We ended up walking back to the Rising Cock with them. I guess that at Joe's Garage the night before Jessica had been talking to them, but I don't remember. They told us that if we went to the big block party which was scheduled to happen right on the street of our hostel, they could do their best to get us on the booze cruise. Who knows if that was true, but we were planning on going to the block party anyways. We got back and we all went to the grocery store to buy food for dinner. We got penne pasta, eggplant, zucchini, onion, mushrooms, and white wine to make ourselves a pasta primavera. Jessica, Courtney, and Melissa admitted their lack of ability in the kitchen and volunteered to do everyone's dishes. Fair enough becaus Katie and I enjoy cooking, and it would just be too confusing with all of us in there. So we poured ourselves some wine, I cut veggies, and Katie seasoned and sauteed. The sauce was made with white wine, olive oil, garlic, garlic salt, paprika, and rock salt. Yum. The pasta was al dente (care of Katie's perfect culinary timing). We soon all sat down to eat. So good! Again, felt great to cook, felt great to eat fresh veggies, and felt great to eat vegetarian. After dinner everyone did dishes while Katie and I headed back to get ready. I decided to shower in the Rising Cock instead of the apartment because our roommates told me that our hot water was pretty much gone. The showers at the Rising Cock were standard stall hostel showers, they were pretty clean, and kind of outdoors which was pretty cool. And it was a warm shower. Not bad. Then I returned to the apartment where we all got ready to head out. Let the shitshow take 2 begin...
