Standard
Thursday was standard. It was a standard day in Sevilla. If I were to sum up what my life in Sevilla is like, Thursday, April 6 would be exemplary. So I woke up at 10:30 after another satisfying night's sleep (hurray for sleeping patterns returning to normal), went to the gym for an hour, came home, showered, made toast, heated up my leftovers from the night before (so excited), put them in the tupperware, and headed to class on an overcast, mild day. Lope was excrutiating and lasted forever, it seemed. The only exciting thing was that the whole class decided to cancel Friday's class. Semana Santa (holy week) starts next week, and that's basically a big spring break for everyone. So a lot of people go home or on vacation, therefore a lot of people leave on the Friday. Haha, let's discuss how my Spring Break is just about to begin while Michigan's summer vacation is about to start. Wow. I didn't mention in Wednesday's post that in Lope my Spanish classmates in Lope got into a fight about having class on Friday. It was the slacker students vs. the dorky students, it was hilarious. You can imagine how that went down. Our prof. got all frustrated and said that we'd decide on Thursday. Well, we decided on Thursday and the dorky kids were outnumbered. I was indifferent. Once class finally ended I headed to the center. The sun had come out, niiiice. The center was pretty empty since a lot of us had already left for various trips for Semana Santa. I noticed a packet in my mailbox: a stapled printout with a note on the front saying "2 days! So excited!". It was a bunch of information of things to do in Amsterdam. I read it and got so excited--there is so much to do there! I'm a bit sad because it's supposed to rain the whole time, but it's all good. I started getting really exited for Amsterdam! 2 days!! I then sat in the center and ate my leftovers slowly, enjoying every last morsel. SO GOOD! Even leftover. Love it. Love Maruja's cooking; I'm going to miss it. I then had Teatro 4-5 and Camacho said that he would not hold class on Friday, either. Niiiice. Teatro was fine, Camacho finished talking about "300 millones". Good timing with finishing it, Lisa! Hehe. During class I got a text message from Melissa saying "Why aren't you in teatro? Whatever, we're going out tonight." She was sitting 2 rows in front of me, AND I saw her walk into class and was yelling her name. I texted her back telling her that I was right behind her. Haha, it was funny. After class we made plans for the night, and decided to just do the standard Cadillac then Alfalfa. Word. Before my 6-8 class I sat outside in the sun (it was windy, though), bought an apple from McDonald's, etc. Then class 6-8, Iconografia, which was pretty interesting and short. More talk about the crucifix. During class I received another text from Melissa saying "Skip class come drink by the river". Haha, too bad I was already in class. But I got the text at 6:40 and we got out of class at 7 so I obliged. I walked towards OpenCor to buy a 40 when I ran into Sam on his bike. I told him my plans for the evening and he decided to join us. Then I got a text from Melissa saying that she had bought Shandy (lemon flavored Cruzcampo) so just meet her by the river. I ran into OpenCor for Sam while he guardede his bike and bought him a 40. Then we walked to the river where we met up with Melissa and Katie and sat for a good hour and a half drinking. Melissa and Katie bought me a can of Shandy and a 40, but I only drank the Shandy cuz I wasn't in the mood to get drunk, just chill out by the river with friends. It was nice to hang out with Sam for the first time in a long time. He had just gotten back from an impromptu 8-day trip to Morocco with these Greek girls he met at a discoteca here. He's so crazy. It was warm, but there was a chilly wind so it was a bit uncomfortable outside. At around 8:30 we parted ways. I made plans with Melissa and Katie to meet them at Cadillac at 11. I then walked home for dinner. I shared the elevator with a woman holding a really cute, fluffy little dog that she was holding. I reached my hand out so it could sniff my hand and knwo that I was friendly so I could pet it, and it tried to bite me! I mean, I moved my hand away fast enough so that it didn't, but it could have taken a good bite out of my hand. It was growling at me for the rest of the ride. That's the first time a dog's ever tried to bite me, I was shocked! Dogs love me! Pets here are just socialized differently than in the states. I mean, that was the first time that I've attempted to be friendly to a dog here because they give off a pretty good "don't mess with me" vibe. I guess it's a lesson, don't fuck with the dogs here. The woman apologized a lot. I told her not to worry about it. I was more shocked than upset. Anyways, we dinner ate pretty early. Dinner was meager, but I wasn't too hungry so it didn't matter. Plus, I was still so happy with my leftovers that I ate for lunch. We had vegetables (green beans, onions, and potatoes) cooked in olive oil, grilled ham n cheese sandwiches, and flan cups (!!!) for dessert. After dinner I did some stuff online, wrote emails, and got ready. At 11 I headed next door to Cadillac...it had been so long! I got there a bit before the girls so I talked to Diego a bit, caught up and such. I learned the Spanish word for "ant"--it's hormiga. Don't ask how that came up, but that's my vocab word of the day. Then the girls showed up with one of their roommates, Emily, who attends William&Mary (I think...) and is here on a different study abroad program. She was very hungover, supposedly she had had a rough night Wednesday which involved her being carried home by one of the guys on her program. Oh man. So she just had a tinto de verano (red wine with Fanta) while the other 3 of us splurged on caprinhas. Diego was excited that we ordered them, he went to town on them...he was intense. And when we drank them he was very curious to know that we like them. He also helped show us how to mix in the lemon and such. Love the Diego! We hung at Cadillac for a good hour then headed out. We walked Emily home, stopped at their piso...their senora wasn't home so I came upstairs with them. Then we headed to Alfalfa. We were pretty sober--the caprinha was actually pretty weak. When we got to Alfalfa it was weird...because we were sober! Hehe, Alfalfa's really a strange place, I never realized. I also noticed that it was teeming with cute boys. I've never seen so many cute boys at once, not at Michigan, nor in Sevilla. Crazy! This was exciting, I must say. We drank the cheap liquor we had packed ourselves, hung out, socialized and mingled. We went into the one bar we always go to for shots and struck up a convo with this group of Irish guys, one of which who is in our Teatro class. They were cool, it was a good time. After a bit we headed back outside and got into convos with other ERASMUS (European exchange) and American students. I started talking to a Mexican guy studying here and all I did was tell him that I study art history and my trip to Mexico last summer and how I loved it and he started saying how I was sent down to him from Heaven. He even used the line "Did it hurt when you fell? [from Heaven]". Ugh, I couldn't believe it. What a loser, haha. He then asked if I had heard Plato's theory of love and finding your "other half" and I said yes, and he said that I was his other half. He was serious. I said no, and he said "How do you know? Maybe not now, but years from now you'll see." What??? What a loser. I couldn't believe this kid. I was just being friendly and making conversation and now he's in love with me. I don't understand boys sometimes. Well, around 3:30 we finally decided to get out of there. So we headed home. It's funny, every time I go to Alfalfa I never know what to expect--something funny or weird always occurs there. It's like going to Alfalfa is just asking for weirdness. Yup, it never fails. Even when walking there I told Melissa and Katie that everytime we go there something silly happens and we all wondered what it would be that night. Well we got our share of silliness. I love Alfalfa, it never disappoints. I got home safely and was in bed by 4:30. Yep, standard day/night in Sevilla.
