Tearing up my feet

Woke up Monday morning at 8:45 very cranky after a really terrible night's sleep. I had nightmares again, what is my deal? I got dressed and walked to the gym where I got a good workout in for an hour. Then I walked home to find Marta sitting on Stacey's bed using her computer! It's so funny because just days before the same thing had happened with Maria del Mar on my computer, so I've been putting my computer away. I didn't know Marta did the same thing, those sneaks. Marta looked really guilty, acted extra nice to me, then turned the computer off as soon as possible and left the room. Haha, oh man. I then showered and got ready for class. I decided to break in the new shoes that I got in the mail for my bday; they're super cute moccasin-like shoes that are a brown satiny material with gold sequins. I love them, and they are a size too small. However, I was able to squeeze my feet into them and I figured that I could stretch them out. I made a huge error. About a fourth of the way on my 25 minute walk to the university my feet started killing me. It felt like the shoes were constricting my arteries and rubbing a layer of skin off of my feet. It took me almost 40 minutes to get to class (luckily I had left early). When I got to class I was in excrutiating pain, I mean, you know the kind of pain that hurts so badly it makes you dizzy and nauseous? That's exactly what it was. In class I took my shoes off and aired out my swollen, blistered feet. I had some nasty, nasty blisters--the worst ever, possibly. In Historia del cine we watched a John Wayne film for our American film unit who's title I can't remember. All I can say is that I was appalled by the movie. I've never seen anything so un-PC and racist (except for maybe Birth of a Nation). It's a cowboys and indians movie and the whole thing just completely villifies the native americans making them look like blood-thirsty savages that must be hunted and killed for the good of American society. It was disgusting. And the portrayal of the Native Americans...oh man...just think of every stereotype and there you have it. I was flabbergasted. And disgusted. Ugh. The movie ended right at 2 and with my slow walking speed I'd never make it home on time for lunch, plus, my feet hurt way too much to walk so I walked on my toes to the bus stop and bussed it home. It was really hot out, I was sweating while waiting for the bus...it could have been around 80 degrees, no lie. Got home in time for food, and lunch was so good. It was just Maruja and me again which was a good thing cuz Maruja got to whip up a concoction of leftovers. We started with a chicken filet, then some of those yukon gold-like potatoes (so simple and so good) and a green salad. Then we had this homemade pate thing that Maruja made from leftover bacalao, tomato, and hardboiled egg. It was DELICIOUS! Then for dessert we had sliced strawberries. Such a good lunch. After lunch I got ready--made sure to wear flip-flops, my feet were in BAD shape--and headed in the heat to the center which was even hotter when I got there (blame it on the elevation and all the people). I hung out and went online until my tutoria for art history and iconografia 4-5. Tutoria went so well; I love my tutor, and he is unbelievably intelligent. I mean, this guy knows his stuff. We looked at books and discussed the chapters and pictures which was really helpful and not to mention interesting. I really got into it! I really am an art history dork. It made me excited to go to my art history classes. Haha, I know. But it was a great tutoria and went by so fast. We talked about the history and legend of the Virgin Guadalupe and depictions of Christ on the crucifix. It sounds bland, but it was so interesting, I'm telling you. He also gave me a bunch of photocopied pages from really basic, essential texts, and then told me that he once sat in on my prof's iconografia class and he'd photocopy all of his notes for me! Nice. Love it. After tutoria I hung around the center some more until walking to the U. for my 6-7:30 Historia del arte. Class was pretty boring. We started learning about Islamic art which is pretty bland since it's a basic overview. We looked at the famous Mezquita (mosque) in Cordoba because we're mostly studying the Islamic influence on the Iberian Peninsula. It was really interesting because I had actually been there! That's the cool thing about studying in Europe: most of the things I learn about in history I actually see in person. I'm a fan. While looking at the slides of the Mezquita I got this sudden, strong craving for hummus. I decided that after class I'd find that Arabic restaurant in Triana (the barrio adjacent to los Remedios) and check out my options. I got out of class a bit early and ran into Stacey and Katie in the copisteria--they had gotten out of their 7-8 class very early. So we walked back to los Remedios together on the hot summer-like evening. We then separated at calle Betis where the restaurant Ali Baba is located. It was a long walk down Betis since it's in Triana. On the way I ran into Emily and Julia from Cornell who were on their way to the movies to see The Producers. Yay for American movies coming late. I got to Ali Babas and it was closed. Damn Spain meal times. I'm sure it opens at like 8:30 or 9 or something. I just wanted a snack, that's all! Well I was starving, so I took a street through Triana that I had never taken before to explore it a bit before heading back to Remedios. I then walked down the main road, stopped at OpenCor and bought myself a package of imitation crab meat and strawberries (yes, I am very random) then walked home to where I proceeded to eat my cheap snacks. I watched some TV until dinner was served which turned out to be very good. It was a very typical Spanish meal: lightly fried whole small fish, small lightly fried fish filets, and grilled red and green peppers. On the side a simple green salad and big, sweet oranges for dessert. So good! After dinner, despite Stacey and my satisfaction, we were craving something cold and sweet due to the summery day. So we decided to go get ice cream cones. It was about 10:30, and both Cafe de Indias and Cafe de Roma (big ice cream places) were closed so we went to the restaurant in Vips...I had never been before, this was exciting! After all of my times at Vips it took me until then to finally go to the restaurant. The restaurant was so hot and the waitstaff was slow. Whatevs. We btoh got cookie sundaes which, luckily for me, were kind of small. You know me, I can't eat a lot of ice cream in a sitting so it was a little more than the perfect amount. It definitely hit the spot, too, ice cream on a hot summer night is perfection. After our little dessert we walked back home where we went online a bit and then passed out around midnight. I was exhausted and happy.
