I love Spanish food (too much)!
Woke up Wednesday at around 10am, and I actually slept straight through the night! I was all concerned about sleeping alone in the room but it worked out well. I'm weird. I got ready and headed to the gym, worked out for a little over an hour, walked home, showered, ate, packed my lunch, and headed out. It was raining a lot, ugh. Bad rain. It was windy and heavy rain. Blahhhh. Despite having just eaten toast, I was munchy. So I went to Vips and bought a pavo (turkey) wrap. I had time to bum around before my 2-3 Lope class, so I went to the center and putzed around online and ate my wrap. Then I walked to class, which was pretty damn boring as usual. Lope class is pretty pointless, I tell ya. After class the rain had let up so I walked back to the center. I ate my lunch, but I was still munchy, I wanted something salty...or sweet. What was my problem? I mean, I wasn't hungry but I just wanted to eat everything. I swear I'm a pregnant woman in disguise. Katie was in the same boat so we went to OpenCor. I longingly stared at all of the pastries, candy, and salty snacks, but held back. I compromised and bought myself a chocolate Muesly granola bar and a strawberry Chupa Chup sucker. Then I had Teatro 4-5 which was fine, I enjoy that class. There was another live reading in class of "300 millones" which was awkward because it was a love scene...but it just made it that much more funny. My Spanish peers are silly. After class I went back to OpenCor where I proceeded to buy a huge package of strawberries, went back to the center and ate them. I swear there is something wrong with me. Well, at least I'm munching on healthier foods, I guess. I was definitely resisting the temptations for other types of snacks, though. Then I had Historia del arte 6-7 which was pretty interesting; we learned more about mezquitas and ancient Islamic kingdoms. The prof. talked a lot about the cathedral in Sevilla and how remnants of the old mezquita remain, such as in the main bell tower. All of it, except for the top with the bells, is the original mezquita tower. How cool is that? Also, some old doors and facade remain. Wow, I had no idea. I recommend looking at my webshots from January again and my pictures of the cathedral because you can catch a glimpse of the old Islamic architecture from 900-1000 A.D. on the tower. So cool! After class I walked back to los Remedios and to the Ochoa bar/cafe where I got a table and a tapa of espinacas con garbanzos (what is my problem??) and finished reading "300 millones". At 9 I walked home just in time for dinner. I wasn't too hungry due to my consistent snacking throughout the day, but Maruja made one of the best dinners that I've ever had here, ironically. It was that veggie hash dish with the peas, potatoes, and chorizo which made me die from happiness. On the side we had this typical Spanish dish called salmorejo...it was so good! It's very interesting: pureed tomatoes that have been soaking in lemon, garlic, and salt, then blended more with garlic, some ham, hard-boiled egg, and something else that mades the consistency kind of thick. Its consistency is like a thick broth, and you eat it plain with a spoon, or dip bread in it. It's amazing. So garlicy and tomatoey. LOVED IT. I love Spanish food! Reflecting on the day, I ate very authentic Spanish foods: my bocadillos were ham with olive oil and pate and sobrasada (a chorizo pate), a chupa chup, strawberries, spinach with garbanzos, veggie hash with chorizo, and salmorejo. I love Spanish food!! For dessert we had sliced strawberries with nata (Cool Whip, basically), eeeexcellent. After dinner, while cleaning up I told Maruja how much I love that veggie hash dish. There were a lot of leftovers because Maria del Mar didn't eat her share (she had come from a birthday party and ate there) so I expressed my sadness about having to put them in a tupperware and not eat them. Then Maruja said that I could take the tupperware with me for lunch the next day! She said that she'd leave it out for me with a fork and bread. I was soooooo happy!! I wasn't afraid to show it either, and she laughed at me in an endearing way. I think Maruja likes that I love her food. I do! I was quite excited about my amazing lunch the next day. I should tell her that I love leftovers and don't mind eating them for lunch everyday, hehe. I then went online and organized some stuff...I talked to Amanda and she's organizing a big group of seniors next year to go to the Ohio State game which is actually in Ohio next year. I'm so excited! Don't get me wrong, I am loving every second of Spain, but I am getting overwhelmingly excited for senior year at Michigan. It's crazy and fitting that I'm out here, because last semester at Michigan sucked and I couldn't wait to get as far away from Ann Arbor as possible. Now that I'm out here in Europe I am missing Ann Arbor and getting so excited for next year. I needed this semester to realize how amazing Ann Arbor is and get pumped for an amazing year. I think that registering the day before also aided my excitement: my schedule is going to be a breeze. Also, I found out that I only need one class second semester senior year to graduate, so I can be a part-time student which will be even easier on me. And I can work more. And putz around on campus more. Love it. I'm so excited! Anyways, that's my Michigan rant of the day. Also, on Wednesday, I started Harry Potter 3!! I'm only 2 chapters in, but I'm in love already. I can't wait to see what happens. After going online I read Harry for about an hour and then went to sleep around 1am-ish.
