Sickness sucks
Blahhhh I´m siiiiiick. This is the first time in a long time that I´ve had a bad cold. I should have brought the Zycam and ColdEez...those things always kill my cold. Ugh, it´s really put a damper on the past couple of days. Nevertheless, yesterday was really nice because the weather improved tenfold; it was sunny and in the mid-50´s, so gorgeous! My interviews yesterday were nothing, they were actually about housing and choosing classes and whatnot. It´s so hard, still, to understand Luisa because she has a really thick Sevillana accent, therefore kind of slurry. I requested to live in a house with pets, and I also requested a roomie. Since I´m one of the very few vegetarians here (which kinda surprised me...the RC has sheltered me big time) my roommate choices are limited. I discussed classes with Eva, looks like I´ll be taking some lit. courses, art history, and perhaps a history of Spain (I know nothing about this country, hehe). Then I went to the farmacia and bought some cold medicine and lozenges, and then Starbucks for some tea and to fill out some paperwork. I ate the best clementine of my life there and enjoyed some Xtina en español :). Then class 4-7 with our profesor Juan; he used to teach at UofM and Middlebury so he speaks slowly and clearly which is a relief. We worked on conversation skills by doing introductions, he informed us about some Spanish terminology and helped with pronunciation. ! Yeah, I was wired. After dinner I went back to my room to work on my homework aHe also lectured about the geography and some history of Spain which was quite boring, and my cold started to get worse at that point, as well. We had an in-class essay (blah) and hw (double blah). I took some medicine which began to kick in when I got back to the hotel which made me feel like I was on speed since the it´s CAFFEINATED. After dinner Stacey and I did hw and went online. We left the door open as we worked, and people kept stopping by, yelling in the halls, talking about going out and pre-gaming, etc. I felt like I was back in the dorms! It was great. Stacey and I decided to stay in although almost everyone went out together. It was nice, we worked and facebooked (of course). We ended up not going to bed until 2. Oops.
I woke up this morning feeling really shitty. Went to breakfast around 8:30, then a meeting about classes and the university from 9-10. I was miserable during it, this cold has gotten pretty out of hand. Then I went back up to the room and slept. I set the alarm for 2pm, and woke up at 2:45. In a rush, I finished my hw, got ready, and rushed off to class. Another gorgeous day, btw. When I arrived at the Center I realized that it was ten to 2 instead of ten to 4. Instead of setting my alarm I had set the clock! I´m a mess, I swear. I ate a quick snack at McDonalds (only thing fast and open) which was a fruit n yogurt (the portions are thankfully much smaller here) and then came back to the center. Some girls decided to grab lunch, and I decided to tag along so as to not bum around the center for 2 hours. Two girls from Cornell and I ate at a little eatery across from the University (which by the way is frickin GORGEOUS), and here I am. My cold medicine has kicked in, so I´m feeling a bit better, but I know that it´ll start wearing off near the end of class tonight and I´ll feel like poop. Meh, stupid body. Just gotta keep nursing myself. Again, thank god for the slow Spanish pace. Unfortunately, I´ll be staying in again tonight which is saddening because it´s everyone´s last night together in the Becquer...we all move in with our host families tomorrow. Eek, I´m kind of nervous, and I hope that I´m feeling better. What´s keeping me going through this sickness crap is this beautiful city and the lovely ladies (and few gentlemen) in the program. Woooo España!
