Congratulate me on my first Sevillano hangover...
Yup, woke up early this morning with that developing headache, well, developed. Reeeeally developed. It's been really cloudy and kind of foggy here lately, so I think that all of that Agua de Sevilla mixed with the barometric pressure did not contribute well to my physical well being. I stumbled into Stacey's medicine drawer and popped a couple ibuprofen and struggled to squeeze out a few more hours of sleep (really difficult with a pounding headache mixed with the pounding hammers of construction on our building...yeah, it was still going on). Well, I congratulated myself on my first Sevillano hangover. That's why I typically avoid dem sugary drinks. I then woke up for real at noon and lazilly got ready for the day and was out the door by 1. I met up with Stacey at the center, hung out for a bit, and then walked with her to Lope de Vega. Class was not bad, we talked about the sonnets and such. We had class with the girls and they were all pretty hungover, worse then I (mine had pretty much dwindled with all of the water, vitamins, and fresh air I had taken in), and that's where we learned about Jessica and Courtney's drunken run-in with the sketchy Moroccan guys. Oh man. After class Stacey and I sat outside (it was cloudy out agaaaain, boo) and I ate one of my bocadillos (Maruja's getting into the 2 bocadillo habit, gotta love it) which was another salchichon, and then a manderina (tangerine). Then we had Teatro hispanoamericano which was, once again, AWESOME. I really do love that class. We read a play by Samuel Beckett which was a play with no dialogue. So avant-garde, so fascinating! We then discussed the implications and how Beckett put a new spin on what theatre is from a modernist perspective. LOVE IT. After class Stacey, Maggie, Sarah (from UMich...there's another Sarah from Penn) went to the copisteria to pick up some packets and such. Then they all left and I stuck around since I had one more class at 6. I ate my second bocadillo, which was great because it was chopped liver! Oh man, I freaking love chopped liver, who knew that they ate it here? I thought that it was just a Jew thing, hehe. I was still hungry after it (of course) so I went to Starbucks relying on the power of green tea to curb my appetite. It was hot, so I walked to OpenCor for a quick fix, a Special K bar and a peaches n cream ChupaChup. Then class 6-8 (was hoping it would not go long, damn late Fridays). Class was so awesome, though! We started looking at slides and we discussed the process of icology (recognizes images and symbols). I'd get into it, but it's probably more interesting to me because I'm a dork about certain things. We looked at different paintings and discussed the process of recognition and then how we interpret and decipher from mere identification. So cool to get to the root of art appreciation, I mean, we literally dissected how one looks at and studies art. Oh man, I love art history, and to actually dissect the process that I go through when getting into art history is even cooler! Despite the lateness of the class, I'm really going to love it. And I really do like my professor and his silly speaking habits. We ended up getting out of class at 7 (holler!) and I hurried home. We're all going to Granada tomorrow (so excited, btw) so I had a lot to do. I got back home and Stacey was napping, hehe. I showered, and worked on blogs and such. Then we had dinner at 9:30 which was very good and very filling: chicken soup with rice (whoa, I smell a Karen Carpenter song...wait, is it Karen Carpenter who sings "Chicken Soup with Rice"...?), and a huge fish salad with tomato, egg, and some sort of vinaigrette sauce. SOOO good! For dessert we had that lemon pudding thing again (YES!). Then we did some more getting ready and then walked to meet Katie at Samurai to quench our week-long lingering sushi cravings. We arrived around 11 and there was a half hour wait! Oh well, it was worth it. We went sushi crazy. I ordered a small order of california rolls, a mixed sashimi plate, and then Stacey and I split a small bowl of steamed rice. The rice was disappointing; I only wanted some rice because the last time we went to Samurai the sushi rice was so sweet. The rice they gave us was just your typical steamed white rice. Boo. Then we decided to order mochi for dessert; Katie and Stacey had never heard of it, so I explained how it's just a small disc of ricey gelatin stuff filled with ice cream. There weren't flavors listed on the menu, so we figured that the flavor would be a surprise. Then the mochi came. Little did we know what this mochi was. It was a big jiggley ball of rice gelatin dusted with coconut and filled with some sort of sweet jam-like paste (I think that it may have been taro?). It was the funniest thing ever, and it tasted really weird. The consistency was kind of like, well, flesh. Actually, if you pick it up it feels/moves like a breast implant, I kid you not. Oh man, it was the funniest food experience that I've had to date. I wish that I had a camera because it was just ridiculous. Sushi ended up taking awhile, surprisingly, and we didn't end up leaving until about 1. We said goodbye to Katie since she wasn't coming to Granada since her mom was coming in town. Then we walked back, did a bit of packing, cleaning, preparations. And here I am. It's 2am and I'm about to go to sleep for a good 4.5 hours. Ugh. Damn early bus trips. Whatever, it's all good, cuz I'm going to Granada!!!
